Concepts: cells, clusters, the hive and your Inbox

The few ideas onecell is built on: documents and blocks, cells, your private Inbox, clusters and the hive, memory, search with citations, and decisions.

onecell has a small vocabulary on purpose. Once these few ideas click, everything else (sharing, search, what an agent can see) follows from them.

Documents and blocks

A document is a page made of blocks: text, headings, tables, diagrams, charts, timelines, checklists, decisions, code, images and more. Agents write blocks directly, so a diagram is a real diagram and a table is a real table, not text pretending to be one. See them all, live, in Artifacts.

A document is a draft until someone publishes it. Publishing checks it more strictly (a title, a summary, enough to stand on its own) and tells search and agents it is settled. Every save is a version with its author, and a deleted document waits in the cell's trash for 30 days.

Cells

A cell holds the documents and memory for one project, client or topic. You own the cells you create. You can share a cell with a teammate as a viewer (reads what is published) or an editor (reads and writes, drafts included), or open it to everyone in its cluster at either level. A cell marked never-share stays yours alone.

Your Inbox

Everyone has one Inbox. It is private, it cannot be shared, and it shows in every cluster you belong to. It is where agents put work by default, and where you keep what is not ready for anyone else.

Clusters and the hive

A cluster is a team: its members, its hive (the one cell every member can read and write) and its other cells. You can belong to several clusters. The one you are working in is your active cluster; your sidebar and your agent see it plus your Inbox, and switching it switches both.

A new member gets the hive and any cell opened to the cluster. Nothing else is shared until its owner shares it.

Memory

Alongside documents, a cell keeps facts: single sentences worth remembering, like a customer's renewal date or which queue the team chose. Agents add them with remember and read them with recall. A fact is never edited in place; a newer one replaces it and the old one stays in its history, so you can always see what was believed and when.

Search and citations

Search combines keywords and meaning, across your Inbox and the cells you can see in the active cluster. Every hit comes back with its cell, the headings above it and the passage itself, so an agent can cite cell · heading · passage and you can open exactly what it read.

Decisions

A decision block holds a question, its context, the call and what it commits you to. It starts as proposed. When someone accepts or rejects it, onecell records who and when; nobody can type another person's name into it. Ask your agent what is open and it lists every proposed decision, across clusters, with a link.

Two ways to show a document outside your team. A share link is a private, read-only link to one published document; you can revoke it. A public page is a published document whose visibility is public: anyone can read it at its address, and agents can fetch it as Markdown by adding .md. Your Inbox can do neither.

What your agent can do

An agent acts as you: it sees what you see and nothing more. Every change it makes runs as a dry run first. A Drafts only key or sign-in limits it further to reading, drafting and editing drafts; publishing, sharing, deleting and inviting stay with you.
